This sculptural piece by Julio Martínez Barnetche is a technical tour de force resulting in an apparatus like light gesture. Its name ‘Pliegues’ (‘pleats’ in Engl.) refers to the sculpting of this beautiful stone, a directly carved rutilated quartz, originating from the Season mine in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. A brass and wood structure holds the piece to let it float in the air. The light source directed at it creates flickering shadow reflections. A rutilated quartz is a stone with needle-like inclusions, here they are golden ones.
