Marion Friedmann works as an independent curator, researcher, lecturer and consultant for design. She advises on art and design matters to private individuals and collectors as well as to companies to incorporate design and art into their company fabric. She has a strong research interest for Design and Material Culture from Latin America and has worked on various projects with Mexico.

Marion Friedmann was invited by Centro ADM México City for a curatorial residency to undertake further research into the design culture in México and to work on her exhibition “RECOLLECTIONS”, which took place in September 2012 during the 10th London Design Festival.

‘OK – Okay Studio and Friends are showing new work’



An exhibition at the London Design Festival 2009, showcasing new work of the designers forming Okay Studio and some invited friends, who are one of the most exciting new design talents having emerged in London within the last few years.

‘Stuhl und Speis – eine Frage des Geschmacks’ (‘chairs and food – a question of taste’)


This Exhibition and installation for the Design Trail Vienna, 2002, ironically questioned the shape of chairs and how it may influence our taste and perception of food. Through the different positions defined by the shape and texture of a chair the user might consume, taste and consequently digest food differently.

Kohlmaier Manufaktur Austria

Consultant / Project Management

Consultant for the launch of a new furniture label – ‘Kohlmaier Manufaktur Austria’, which is dedicated to produce upholstered furniture by emerging designers living in Vienna and Austria (2005). Kohlmaier is an upholstery business in Vienna with a tradition spanning three generations within this handicraft trade. The new label issues selected and commissioned furniture pieces, forming a fine collection, which is produced to order.

‘DreiRaum’ shortfilm Festival at Arena Vienna:

Curator /Project management

Shortfilm festival and platform for emerging film-makers in Austria (2002/2003). The festival provided the possibility for emerging filmmakers to get their work out onto the big screen of an open air summer film stage.

‘The Urban Canvas Project’

Curator and researcher for the design section of Mexico City, for a project developed by Thirty3 productions.
The Urban Canvas project is a research,- and promotion project about Mexico City and the creatives living and working there, resulting in a book.
The project looks at Mexico City and how this megalopolis specifically inspires and informs the work of artists, architects and designers.

‘FoodMarketo – an everyday life market’

Collaborator on a project by DesignMarketo and Apartamento Magazine. For the Milan furniture fair 2010. FoodMarketo was half pop-up store, half cooking workshop, selling contemporary design objects commissioned to over 30 international designers and hosting daily workshops to share recipes and everyday life ingredients. The store featured a unique interior designed by London based designers Max Lamb and Lars Frideen.

‘The Incidental’

for the British Council Architecture & Design Despartment’s project at the Milan Furniture Fair 2009.

The Incidental is a publication experiment in new media, a hybrid of flickr & twitter fed content alongside written reviews. On 4 days the highlights of the Milan  Furniture Fair were extracted through collecting the opinions of experts, designers and visitors alike, resulting in a map of visuals and words, full of tipps & tricks and insider hints to make navigation through Milan that little bit easier.
