These wire nests are originally hung within a birdcage for the birds to build their nests.

The mould for those objects were wooden bird cages that you hang in trees. During the mouth blowing process the wood burns away and leaves the blank glass object, leaving its beautiful marks in the glass. This can be seen particularly with the blue one (see image).

The mould for this bowl was a palm leaf basket, a very common basket type seen in Mexico’s markets. The basket burns away when the hot liquid glass in blown into it, and leaves delicate, fine marks on the surface of the bowl, referencing its former existence.

The mould for this intriguing bowl was a simple wooden fruit box. Again, the box burns away, but stays long enough to keep the hot glass in shape.
